With computers becoming such an indispensable part of our daily lives, the demand for computer professionals is at an all-time high.
Computer Related Jobs Growing Steadily
From air line ticket reservations to preparing school projects, everything requires the help of computers. Additionally, there are other sophisticated and advanced uses of computers in the field of science and technology.
The US Department of Labor reports that:
- Computer engineering is one of the fastest growing occupations and is projected to grow at a rate much faster than the average growth rate for all careers in the next few years.
- Computer and information system manager jobs are likely to increase much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2014.
Salary Statistics
There are more reasons to choose a career in computers. According to The US Department of Labor:
- The average income of computer application software engineers was $74,980 and at the higher end the highest 10% earned a median income of $113,830 in 2004.
- Computer software engineers start with a salary in the range of $63,250 to $92,750.
- The median annual earnings of computer and information systems managers are $92,570.
However, demand is not increasing for all computer-related jobs. While jobs which require an advanced education such as computer software engineering and computer and systems management present a very encouraging scenario, job growth for less skilled positions such as computer operation data entry and information processing workers are likely to decline.
Computer Degree Programs
Candidates interested in learning computers without quitting their present jobs can do so with the help of online computer degree programs. Programs like computer operator, DTP and information processing workers can typically be completed in shorter time periods. Online computer degree programs like software or hardware engineering typically take more time to complete. You can either choose a degree online or attend regular classes. These programs can be completed either within couple of months to some years depending on the program chosen. The degrees available are an associate's degree, bachelor's degree, master's degree, certificate course and a doctorate program.
After getting the requisite training, a qualified computer professional can pick up a job as a software engineer, software developer, quality engineer, computer analyst, database specialist or a network administrator.
